The Erlangen AG opens up new ways for a strategic management for the location
Not just enterprises are confronted with the growing pressure in competition. Even the competition between cities and regions has sharpened by the consequences of the change towards a knowledge society and the ongoing globalisation. This change, embossed from accelerated processes in social, economic and cultural areas, demands a change in the strategy paradigm of cities. Locations in the knowledge society are confronted with imponderability that does not find a place in fixed plans and concepts of an industrially stamped society. The Erlangen AG tries to identify ways to get to a strategic association with strengths, weaknesses and opportunities of the city.
This strategic acquaintance is closely connected with the adoption of a strategic management system. For this purpose together with a high-class European consortium the project StratMan4Regions was developed. This project aims on the development and implementation of a strategic regional management based on a workshop oriented approach. This approach adopts tools from business management to regions. The Erlangen AG already acts on the fields of Knowledge Management and Competitive Intelligence. The Project will start at the beginning of 2009.
