Spitzner: "New chapter in the IZMP success story"
MUNICH / ERLANGEN The medical technology region of Erlangen is being extended. Hans Spitzner, the Bavarian State Secretary for Economic Affairs, and Erlangen's First Mayor Siegfried Balleis today participated in the ceremonial first dig of earth for the second building phase of the Innovation and Founder Centre for Medical Technology and Pharmaceutics. "Since the commencement of operations in January 2003, IZMP has developed to become an important hub for the exchange of scientific-technological information with the economy in the medical-technological network of Erlangen. The extension now opens up a new chapter in the success story of IZMP. Demand of the dynamic medical technological founding scene for space to rent and for IZMP services is now being met," emphasises State Secretary Spitzner.
Since the end of 2004 already, the first phase of the building, 3,500 square metres of rented space, is working to full capacity. At present the IZMP is housing 23 founder companies from the areas of medical technology and biotechnology. The extension will make another 1,650 square metres of office space available. Spitzner: "The Bavarian administration is promoting the new IZMP building project within the scope of campaigns for the future of Bavaria and for high tech to the amount of EUR 12.46 million, with which we are making a significant contribution towards reinforcing the forward-looking branch of medical technology in the region of Nuremberg-Fürth-Erlangen."
Promotion funds totalling more than EUR 60 million were invested in the high-tech campaign for infrastructure, R & D projects and the promotion of founders and networks in the medical technology region of Nuremberg-Fürth-Erlangen. The triangle of these three cities and Munich form one of the main areas in the medical technology cluster within the scope of the "Allianz Bavaria Innovative" campaign. The registered office of the cluster management is the MedTech Pharma e.V Forum in Nuremberg.
